Abiha Batool Is Raising Money Through Crowdfunding For Stanford

Around the world students raise money through crowdfunding, a concept that is gaining popularity in Pakistan as well. Abiha Batool, a 20 year old student of Communication and Design at Habib University in Karachi is using crowdfunding to get herself into Stanford’s Honors Program.

She was granted a 50% scholarship but still needs to raise an extra $9,000 till March 2018 so she could enroll on time.

Abiha like many youngsters who dream of studying abroad remained unsuccessful at getting into UC Berkeley’ Summer Program due to lack of enough finances.

On her crowdfunding page she gives details about her previous attempts and how much she requires to be able to get admission in Stanford.

Using fondly.com a crowdfunding website, Abiha and her friends decided to raise finances for their education. Her friends had tried using this idea when applying for The Twelfth International Conference on Design Principles and Practices in Spain. This also inspired Abiha.

Habib University has signed  MOU  with Stanford for the International Honors program (IHP). The best students are selected for this program to represent Pakistan at Stanford.

The IHP program is about top notch academics with a range of activities where students get to explore cultural, social and geographical resources of San Francisco Bay Area. The intensive program is an opportunity for students to interact with faculty and other students, exchange ideas and learn.

Abiha has written about her on the crowdfunding website as follows:

After a rigorous selection process, I have been accepted by Habib University to attend Stanford’s International Honors Program on 50% scholarship. You can help me avail this great opportunity and achieve my dream of attending one of the most prestigious Universities in the World!

Moreover she gives details like:

I have been working hard at Habib University to make it environment friendly. Along with working on installing a waste management system, I have been working on initiating a Sustainability Office at Habib to make our community more aware and responsible for the waste we create. I also intend to take my interests further and become an Urban Designer to combat the issues of climate change and waste management in Pakistan. Stanford caters to my interests as I will get a chance to take courses like Sustainability Design Thinking and Smart Cities and Communities, which teach and promote an eco-friendly lifestyle by approaching sustainability from the perspective of design thinking.

This young girl is determined to reach her goal,  and she has some aims in mind. Her profile looks promising and shows consistency in her work and interests.
