Vice Chancellor Lahore College Dismissed by CJ Saqib Nisar
The vice chancellor of Lahore College for Women University was dismissed by Justice Saqib Nisar on Sunday.
The suo motu notice was taken against the reports that LCWU VC Dr Uzma Quraishi was appointed without merit.
VC clarified while appearing before the court that Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal played no role in her appointment when the Chief Justice said that they are aware of Iqbal’s role in the issue.
Chief justice showed great disappointment stating that the “the state of education has been destroyed, this is Punjab Government”.
Punjab Higher Commission Minister Raza Ali Gillani informed the court that Uzma Quraishi’s appointment was not undertaken in his tenure.
On Sunday, the apex court ordered the removal of temporary Vice Chancellors of Fatima Jinnah Medical College University and Faislabad Medical University and ordered permanent appointments at those posts.
The Punjab advocate general informed the court that a committee has been formed which comprises of Zafar Iqbal Quraishi, Umar Saif and Razzaq Dawood. The members were approved by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar and the committee will now recommend names for the VCs posts at public sector.
The court had earlier ordered the suspension of Dr Zakaria Zakar, VC University of Punjab. Dr Zakaria appeared before the court and pleaded the court to reconsider the decision as he has been teaching for 28 years now and only two years of service is left.
