STOP CHILD ABUSE!

Have you ever thought that what happens when boys are actually taught to respect women? And what impact could it lead when children are imparted to say stop child abuse?

I CAN DEFEND MYSELF!

I SAY NO!

DON’T TOUCH ME!!

STOP!!!

STOP CHILD ABUSE!

These are few phrases which have to be reminded over and over again in order to create self-awareness. Girls should not become a victim of this ruthless act. And one way to avoid is to educate them to raise voice against it. And become bold to such extent that it actually terrifies the doer.

Consent classes in Nairobi, Kenya are a huge success. Where rape has been reduced to 50% in areas where such education is given to both boys and girls. Boys successfully intervened while witnessing an assault 74% of the time.

One of every four girls in Nairobi, Kenya has been the victim of rape. Before the launch of the program, many boys were of the view that it is justifiable to rape girls who:

  • are taken to expensive dates
  • or are out alone in evenings or nights

Only six educational sessions have started changing their perspective. Self-defense is the part of the girl education program. Classes also teach positive masculinity to boys. They stand up for women safety instead of having a bad eye on them. The boys are skilled to be ready to do the right thing, be responsible and respectful towards women. They are trained to play their role to stop child abuse. The classes are hosted by No Means No Worldwide. They will soon be taught in every school in Nairobi.

The Chief Minister of Province Punjab, Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif has also decided to introduce Child Protection Curriculum in schools. It is the much-needed act and we hope that Ministry of Education will learn from this successful example about how and what contents would be included to have maximum positive and visible impact.
