I am hopeful that this platform will help us compete better at the international level and more importantly in the analysis of the skills of our players in their developmental phase.”

Dr Umer Saif, the Chairman PITB said, “Its a huge step towards digitization of cricket in the country and I hope that the platform helps Pakistan cricket especially since we are set to become the pioneers of providing such a facility at the grassroot level.”

What is Insights?

Research team of Information Technology University Lahore has developed a player profiling system called Insights. The scoring system works on both android and web.  The match scores along with every minute detail is added with just the use of Android tablet. The procedure becomes very cost effective.

The scorer has ability to add additional information as well like weather information, pitch, field placement, estimation of swing and height, ball pitch spot and information about toss.

Two users can use the system at same time to add maximum information about the same match. For example, a scorer adds the score and an analyst add information about pitch, field etc. User can add happenings on every delivery. For instance, if there was an out, the user can choose from the prepopulated list, the name of shot, if it was an LBW or Catch-Out. In short different types of scores can get recorded with few clicks.

The system has following screens;

The data is collected for both matches and individuals. Data is then used for soft and concrete logical results.

This system can act as a tool to analyse the player’s performance from beginning to end, thus identifying strengths and weaknesses.

Insights is an excellent initiative with a brilliant idea to benefit Pakistani cricket. We are hoping this will add to the strengths and growth of our prayers to improve their skills and game. With PCB making PSL happen for 3 consecutive years, and now this, all seems promising and positive for us as a nation.
